Hangin' out in H'ville

Congratulations to Karen/Pete and Amie/Ron on the soon to be announced boys. As for us, Bruce is back to work after his surgery but hoping to get a dayshift position soon. I am doing quite well at work. I was named technologist of the year for Huntsville Hospital and I won 1st and 2nd place in a baking competition the same week. Maybe if you're ever this way we could go out and celebrate. By the way, when is Steve coming home? Hope you are all well. N

What to do with all these boys!

We had our ultrasound today and found out we're also having a boy! We're very excited. I've always thought it would be fun to have two boys. Of course, check with me in a few years and i might be crazy from living with all these boys! I will definitely be outnumbered in this house. Thank goodness Casey's a girl...sort of. We have chosen a name already...Justin Lee Duke. All is well so far with the pregnancy and we're excited to meet Baby Justin in a few months!

Baby News

We had the ultrasound today and found out we are having a BOY!!!!!
I guess we didn't want to break the trend that James, Jennifer, Pete and Karen started.
I wonder if they make baby pimp outfits??
Just wanted to share our news, we hope everyone is doing well!

Military Friends V. Civilian Friends

This has probably been around the world and back...but...I think it's accurate:

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Tell you not to do something stupid when you're drunk.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will post 360 security so you dont get caught.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Call your parents Drunk as hell and tell them about the fat chick you tried to pick up.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Cry with you.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Laugh at you and tell you to put some Vagasil on your pussy.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff, then keep your stuff untill they PCS.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Know a few things about you.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowd's ass that left you.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Would knock on your door.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!"

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will take your drink away when they think you've had enough.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will look at you stumbling all over the place and say, "Bitch, you better drink the rest of that shit.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will say "I can't handle Tequila anymore".
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will say "Okay just one more." 2 minutes later "Okay just one more."

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will talk shit to the person who talks shit about you.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will knock them the fuck out!!

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will tell you "They'd take a bullet for you."
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will actually TAKE a bullet for you.

Long Weekend Getaway?

Since we were not able to get away for a Bama game, would anyone be interested in making a trip to Helen for the weekend? It's only about an hour and a half from our house. Plus...there is absolutely nothing to do up there but hang out...and visit. They have 'cabins' (read...real nice 4-6 bedrooms) up there with hot tubs on the deck. Plus..some have a fire pit outside.

Any takers? The cooler it gets down our way...it'll be alot cooler up there.

Jim&I - Coming to Huntsville and Atlanta!

Hi gang!

I was looking through some of my old photos and found these two. (My photos are still hidden, in waterproof bags, after last year's hurricane evacuation. I am just now getting some of them back out.) The first, one of my favorite pictures of Kenny and me, was taken in '95 at a wedding luncheon for our friend Allison. The second was New Year's at Nancy's. Not sure of the year. The important question from this photo: Who exactly were the designated drivers? Hard to tell, huh? Maybe we just all stayed there until we were sober again.

Well, Jim and I will be in Huntsville October 22 - 26. [HSV gang - I think we're free Tuesday or Wednesday night. If you just want to see me, I'm available during the day on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Sorry Jim!] Then, we're down to Albany, GA to visit Missy, Dan, and the girls that Friday. We'll be in Atlanta the weekend of Oct 28. Can anyone do lunch and/or dinner in Atlanta on Saturday, Oct 28.? (I think Sunday is full of stuff with his family, but I'll let you know if it turns out we're free.) We were thinking about this spot, at least for dinner: http://www.lethai.com/ It's an organic Thai restaurant in Tucker. (My new hobby is finding organic resturants when we travel. In an effort to make sure that I become the highest maintenance person I can, I've managed to figure out that I have several food sensitivities/allergies and that I do better when I don't eat food with pesticides. Kenny - I think I have Allison beaten now. Watching me order at a restaurant is a rare treat! "Does that have wheat or dairy? Can I have that on the side? Can I substitute ...?" Good thing that I'm so sweet ;) and a good tipper. I haven't managed to truly piss off a wait person yet!)

That weekend was supposed to be the Georgia Tech Hockey Alumni reunion game. We were going to invite everyone, especially Marc - last year's official unofficial photographer. However, the team forgot to book the ice, so now it's cancelled.

Hope to see you all soon!

Life with the Hortons

I know, I know --we are the worst bloggers ever. Sorry, but I just don't turn the computer on that much at home and we are not allowed to use the internet at work. They fire you and stuff from what I hear. Dang sick people want all the attention. Anywho, I was promoted a while ago and am now the clinical coordinator of the Angiography department. Just means I get to boss a few people around and more doctors can yell at me if something doesn't go their way. Haven't decided yet if it worth the extra 50cents or not. :) Bruce just had to have back surgery again for two more herniated discs. Tree stump 15---man with axe 0. He is doing well and can flex his right foot up again which Bruce has found comes in handy. We have become festival goers which I think can be directly linked to my love of kettle corn and Bruce's love of large weiners( I mean, bratwurst, hehe) The Kentucky bourbon festival was our last outing. Of course, I went for the pancakes with bourbon syrup and Bruce went for all the free stuff (especially, Bourbon samples). What was ever decided about the football game outing? I think we could make one of the games in November but which one is best for everyone? Sorry, Steve. What is your address, by the way? As for dinner in Atlanta on the 16th, Ronnie-----we live in the same town and you still haven't called me back about taking you out for your birthday, slacker. How are the babies mamas doing? Hope everyone is well. nancy
P.S.- I heard they are making Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who into a movie. Think I could get a walk on role. Although, not directly genealogically related to the elephant named Horton, I think I should be under consideration
P.P.S.--Did you know that there is a town called Bruce, Mississippi? Also, that Bruce is having to stand in with the Hooters girls while Steve is away. And,that my dogs are training to be scrub techs. Like Toonces the driving cat but smarter. O.K. so I got bored one day. I, really, hope the pictures attach so you can see what I'm babbling on about.

VACATION

Hey Marc, Barb, Pete, Karen, Ethan and anyone else who will be in ATL on Monday October 16th. We are taking a vacation and our first stop is ATL. We wanted to meet up with anyone available for dinner on the 16th. I guess the best place would be somewhere north of ATL around Norcross, Duluth or Buford area. Does anyone have any ideas or is anyone available? It would be nice to get together since its been so long!

Friday, September 29, 2006

Hey Marc, Can you send me a jpg of that picture on Flickr with the easy button. That is awesome.
Also Check out the group girl talk. Really speaking to the musical ADD in all of us!

The link didn't show up in my previous post. Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51yAl 6iQLI

Hopefully that will work. If not, you can go to youtube.com and look for it or watch CMT b/c they're showing the video.
This link is the new Jimmy Buffett video for the song Bama Breeze. The song is loosely based on the Flora/Bama bar in Gulf Shores. I do believe some of us spent a little time there a few years ago. The video was actually filmed in Bay St. Louis and New Orleans and features a bar that was destroyed by Katrina. Apparently the Flora/Bama was damaged in Ivan a few years ago. Don't know if it's still there. Just thought it was pretty cool.

I have to brag on Pete a little right now. i don't know if he told anyone that he's been working on finishing half of our basement to make an office for me and a playroom for Ethan. Anyway, he's finished everything and we moved stuff down there over the weekend. I wanted to post a couple pics to show his great work. i still have no idea how he knew how to do all this. He did it all himself including the sheetrock, floor, built me a desk, everything. The pic of the playroom was after Ethan made his way in there so it's a bit messy, but you get the idea. We're making room upstairs for baby number 2 so that kind of sparked all of this.

Thursday, August 17, 2006

To Marc (who responded) and anyone else who is interested in coming, i know pete mentioned the surprise 60th party for his dad on the 26th (next Sat.). It starts at 6:00 and Darryl's supposed to arrive around 7:00. It's at Pete's parents' house which i know y'all have been to, but if you need directions, just let us know. There will be plenty of food and beer so please come. I know i'd love to see y'all! Ethan will be there too, partaking in the festivities and throwing back a few brewskies!

In honor of Pete's Birthday I was going to post a picture of Pete but then I realized I didn't have a good pic so I decided to post 3 things that Pete loves:

Chix
Dog nuts
and Coke

...not necessarily in that order.

Hey everyone! I guess we have to echo Ron & Amie's good news with our own. We are expecting our second baby on March 20th. This baby will be right at 2 years younger than Ethan, which is what we were hoping for. All is well so far for me, just a little worn out, but chasing an 18-month old will do that to ya! We are very excited and just wanted to share our news with y'all!

Hey Everyone, Pimps wife here....
I wanted to let everyone know that the Pimp will have to retire. Yes, I know this is very, very sad news for all of you, but you see I don't think it is right for a 'dad-to-be' to also be a Pimp. I mean that just isn't morally acceptable. So, come March when we become proud parents, he will have to lay down that purple-feathered pimp hat once and for all. Seriously though, Ron and I are expecting and we wanted to share our wonderful news with everyone! I guess that trip to Key West really paid off. :)
birthday party announcment...sunday...august 27th...my dad turns 60.

on saturday august 26th, my mom will be throwing him a surprise party. what would be turning 60 without a keg and a box of custom made dominicans (my present for him). plus...a bunch of the folks that they used to party with will be there.

please consider this an invitation to the party and my folks would be absolutely thrilled if y'all show up.

oh...and to boot...my mom turns 60 this year...only in september. so...my aunt debbie and i are going to turn the surprise party for my dad...into a surprise party for my mom. so...two surprises.

anyway...y'all are more than welcome and if you want...you are welcome to stay with us if you want...we have the room.

Okay...it looks like we for sure won't be going to the following Auburn games so tickets are up for grabs: 9/23 versus Buffalo and 11/4 versus Arkansas State.

We also will be skipping one of three games in October either Arkansas, Florida or Tulane, but i don't for sure which one. We're still working out our schedule. Pete is supposed to be traveling to Palm Springs on business in Oct. and Ethan and i may go with him but nothing is for sure. I'll post which of those is available when i know for sure.

If anyone is interested in these tickets, let me know.

Monday, July 24, 2006

Have you guys seen this?

It airs locally on 105.3 but I haven't been able to find any downloadable cuts.

Thursday, July 20, 2006

Pete and I have season tickets to the Auburn games this year and if anyone is interested in going to a game, we're willing to give up a game or two. Just let us know. I know, I know, most of you would rather go to Bama games so this is for those of us who have the good sense to be Auburn fans.

Oh, and i'm sure you're wondering how in the world i got Pete to agree to get Auburn season tickets. Well, he figured if we could get them this year, then we would probably be able to get them next year and go to the Alabama game. It's certainly not b/c he's an Auburn fan!

Anybody Read Prick?

I didn't think so. But just in case you needed something for the birdcage some of my pix will debut in Prick Tattoo magazine in August.

If you want to see more Calu (the hot chick w/ the 20 gauge) check out the photoset of commercial stuff on my Flickr page. I'm still uploading all of the pix and I don't know which one they're gonna use.

And no, I don't have any tattoos...other than that one of Rosie on my ass.

Pete has his toy car and so does Ethan. He loves this goofy little car. One morning I heard him escape out into the garage and i found him sitting in his car in the dark. He just couldn't stay away from it. Like father, like son!

Ok, either I'm blind, or we've been slipping in our postology...
So, guess I'll do the old update thing and say my peace. First off, Happy birthday Sarah, the calendar siad it's Sara's B-day the 10th(so it's belated). I also see Amie's is coming up so same to you...So, as for me, things are going well, I'm finally settled in and starting to get comfy here. I'm planning on doing some galavanting in the near future to see some old friends that are here. That's the great part about the job, I can pretty much do anything I want as long as I tie it to the job somehow...For those I haven't talked to since leaving, the place is pretty nice, I have internet and TV in the room with 7 or 8 channels with pretty diverse programing. So life could be MUCH worse. well, I'll shut the hell up now and hope that this at least sparks a little dicussion. If that doesn't do it.....here are some other topics you can fell free to kick around:

The meaning of life (ALL life, not just YOURS)
Vanity (for those who needed the adendum above)
Steve's favorite color (this would be an open ended discussion as I haven't actually decided)
Your favorite color
Underwear
The life and times of your favorite pair of socks

.....well........bye

Remember when some of us met in ATL to see Andy's band? There was a band that played right before his called PBM, well they were on TV tonight. Ron was flipping through the channels and paused on 'America's got Talent', and I said hey, stop, we know them. CRAZY! They sounded better in person but they were moved on to the next round. Does anyone else remember them? Hey James, didn't you get an autograph from the lead singer or was that Marc?

Saturday, July 01, 2006

it is with a heavy heart that i have to tell all of you this...but...i had to have bentley put to sleep tonight. without getting into the details, he had a seizure that would not stop...and it was not likely that he would ever come out of it (much like rosey). i believe i had mentioned at our last outing that he had been having seizures and we knew this day was coming. that does not make it any easier...but...it was the right thing for him.

he was a good family friend that will be missed dearly. so...say a little prayer for the benster tonight with the hopes that he finds rosey.

here's to the benster...

Huntsville OD store closing? Hey Ron...I was just looking around on fatwallet.com and saw where the OD in Huntsville was closing and there have been some sweet deals to be had. Did you get in on any of the laptop deals? I saw $186 for a Sony VIAO. Is that right?

Oh well...crazy deals...too far away.

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

It's been a while for some T-Town Trivia...soooo...jumping off of the top rope with the second being a bit more difficult.

What was the name of the package store that we used to walk to when we lived on 15th Ave?

What was the name of the bar that we saw Hootie at for the very first time? As a bonus...what was it later named? And as a double bounus....Jiiiimmmmaaaaayyyyhhhh was tossed out of a certian video game competition in this bar. What game was it and why was he tossed out?
Pete's music post of the week:

"...silver wings upon their chest...
...these are men, America's best...
...one hundred men, will test today...
...but only three win the Green Beret..."

Here's a few pics from our trip to Panama City Beach last week. Ethan loved the sand and the water. By the end of the week, he didn't want to ride in his float anymore. He would only wear the water wings on his arms. He thinks he's a big boy! In the third pic, Ethan was being daring sticking his arm through the rail of our tenth floor balcony. Needless to say, whenever he got close to that rail, I was a little nervous. We had a great time and had gorgeous weather the whole week.

With the beginning of a new week and the advent of the new Yahoo home page, I bid you all greetings.
We saw quite a bit of the peeps from the blog this weekend and sent one of our own to war. We wish You well Mr Wargo!
It was good to see everyone, and as we told you all, We had a great time in Key West.
Key West is Highly recommendrd to visit. It covers a couple of spectrums of vacationers. On one hand, You can be a total tourist and go to all the famous landmarks, shops, and even bars. On the other hand, you could while away the days in luxurios wanton abandon at your hotel, or atop a "mans Safety Bike" drifting throught the maze of streets. Amie and I were able to enjoy both sides of this coin. I want to go back next time to enjoy the second side of the coin to the fullest.

Just Want To congratulate pete on being the 69th poster. Since he's a poster child for so many things..hehehe.
it's been way too long for pete's music post of the week...so...here we go...a little obscure lyric from a great car song...it's from a band that was formed in the 70s and are still playing together today...saw them a couple of years ago. i would classify them as the ultimate 3 man band. bonus points for the members of the band...

"...my uncle has a country place...
...that no one knows about...
...he says it used to be a farm...
...before the motor lawn...
...and on sundays i elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight...
...to far the outside wire...where my white haired uncle waits..."

We went to Lake Oconee this weekend with Pete's parents and stayed at his aunt's lake house. Here's our little fisherman ready to fish. He kept sticking his hand in the minnow bucket and was playing with the live minnows. We're getting his redneck training started early!

Friday, May 26, 2006

Not sure what everyone is doing at the end of June but wanted to invite anyone and everyone to a barbeque at my house on June 24 . It is a sort of joint birthday party for my sister in law and myself. Please come if you can ---children and parents are welcome.

My thoughts need a passport cause my mind travels.
Since we are heading to Key West in just under a week, and since Hemingway has written a line or two for people to read, I was hoping to get some good reading suggestions for the summer. Sure I still have all the Russian hardship tales and love stories in My collection, but i am always looking to expand my reading horizons.
Read any good books lately?

A rare bird has been sighted...Elvis is in the building...anyway...you get the picture...Pete is posting a serious post.

As all of you know (at least I think), my Dad has Crohn's disease and has been battling it since the early 70's. Well...annually, the CCFA has a walk in Atlanta and this year, I am setting up a team that will walk in his name and will try to raise money for the foundation. I have set a fairly lofty goal for a first time team but...I think it is attainable.

If you would like to join the team and walk on September 17th or contribute what you can, we would greatly appreciate it. Here is our team's website (nothing fancy) but...it'll work:

http://ccfa.kintera.org/georgia/2006walk/bubbascrew

Please feel free to forward this on to anyone you see fit.

Thanks,

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't been posting much, but I have been lurking.

I probably won't get to see Steve before he leaves, so in honor of Steve and by request of Missy, here's a picture of Steve and Missy's old dog Peanut. (It was during the wedding shower/New Year's trip to New Orleans.) I still am amazed at your ability to sleep during any circumstance!

Jim & I are coming to Huntsville June 6 (Tuesday) - June 12 (Monday). Hopefully, we'll get to see several of you while we are there. (We're not going to Altanta during this trip though.) Nancy & Ron - Let me know if there is a better night than others to come see you.

No real news here, except that I retired in January. I decided that my job was too stressful, so I left. Now, I'm taking french lessons for fun, and Jim & I are taking salsa lessons as well. Jim is still a hockey player/fanatic.

Missy had her third child, a girl, last Tuesday. (She has identical twin girls who are about 2.5 years old.) I forgot to ask her if I could post the particulars. I'll check with her first and then post if she's okay with it.

We're having our pool resurfaced and retiled, so it should be ready for the summer. If anyone wants to come visit us, feel free. (September is the best pool weather. July and August are so warm and humid that it feels like laying in a warm bath while sitting in a sauna.) There's nothing like a vacation to Houston in the summer!

Marc - Could you send another invitation to Missy? Her old one didn't work. Also, did you invite Matt and Tonya? I have an e-mail for Tonya if you need it. (I tried to send some invites, but at least according to the "Help" instructions, I didn't have the right kind of account to send them. Oh well, maybe I just missed something.)

aiightt...because i just went through a bunch of college stuff at my folks...and found something interesting...more t-town trivia...maybe more informational and not trivia...but...fun nonetheless...

anyone remember your phone numbers from the apartments we (even the kiddos on the plains) lived in? if you can go one even better...anyone remember the phone numbers from the dorms (i saw those in the stuff i went through but...can't recall them)?

i remember mine (and marc's) because i only had one from the time i moved out of the dorm...it was...

205-750-0860 (had such a nice ring to it...ba doom ch)

Thursday, May 18, 2006

t-town trivia...

every fall semester (and i think once or twice spring) a particular grocery store would have a blowout on one particular brand of beer by the case...

1) name the store
2) how much did the cases sell for
extra...
3) name two brands that they blew out (i only remember 3 total)
pete's music post for the week...if it were not for this song...i would have probably kept listening to hair bands and 70s rock...it introduced me to a whole new genere of music and my favorite spouse introduced me to it.

"...show me, show me, show me how you do that trick..."
"...'the one that makes me scream' she said..."
"...'the one that makes me laugh' she said..."
"...and threw her arms around my neck..."
"...'show me how you do it..."
"...and i promise that...i promise that..."
"...i'll run away with you'..."

Sorry I missed everybody Friday night. I ended up sick as a dog all night so it's a good thing I didn't stay. I probably would've gotten all of ya'll sick too. Hopefully I'll make it to the next shindig.

Has anyone seen the new Krystal commercials that appear to be interviewing college students? I've seen three of them and two have been at UA with the other being at UT.

Anyway...I think that the Krystal on 82 is the one in the commercial and it looks like footage from campus.

I think I've got our schedules changed around so we'll be there on Friday. Can't wait to see everyone, so just save a spot on the floor for us. What kind of band is Andy in anyway?
What do you guys think of a Canoe Trip on Memorial Day weekend OR May 21st in Birmingham?

James lives "a stone's throw"(@1/4 mile) away from a canoe rental on the Cahaba.

If not Memorial Day or May 21st, then when?

Keep in mind that Steve will be leaving in early June.

Hey Gang, Since we're all gettin together on Friday, why don't we get together and eat. Amie ran across an idea while thumbing thru a Rachel Ray cookbook. Check this website out.
www.twourbanlicks.com . Think you want to eat here? They take reservations. Lets think about it and Git-R-Done!

BTW, Check out Wolfmother! Say whatever happened to seventies hard rock? Here it is, a groove slightly transformed...Just a little bit of a break from the norm."

"one life...i'm gonna live it up...
...i'm takin flight...said i'm never gonna get enough...
...stand tall...i'm young and proud...
...i'm on top as long as the music's loud..."
here we go with another blastola from the pastola...

prior to living at the elegant establishment pride's court...we lived on 15th st. where some nights we would shoot off fireworks...on one given night...we got caught...what was the officer's name that caught us?
No matter how seriously Nancy takes it, remember it's YOUR birthday and you can dance how you wanna.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we all know, chairs are intended for sitting in, but not for our little daredevil, Ethan. He obviously thinks it's funny to tempt fate by standing in his and rocking it!

MAY 12, who's in?

I talked James today and he's committed the fam to coming to ATL for Andy's band at The Dark Horse. I've also spoken with Ron and I'm pretty sure he and Amie are going to be here as well.

Is anyone else coming?
Ok. A Pitcher of Beer with a shot of SoCo for the answer to this one. Name the venue where three dollar beers were the most enjoyable.

click...click...boom - saliva
fuel - metallica
the game - disturbed

Hey Barb, can you check around Atlanta for any Pirated versions of "nocniy Dozyor," or Night Watch. Its a Russian Vampire flick where the director sent the movie out and had it edited by almost open source. They released it in "selected" cities, which we of course are not. Also any of you Download Movies? If so what P2P program do you use? If you use BitTorrent, is htere still a way to get it for free. Ya'll's help is always appreciated.
